BIG CHANGES AS WE MOVE THE FESTIVAL FROM THE SOUTH COAST TO A MORE CENTRAL LOCATION NEAR OXFORD

Having spent several years in Torquay it was felt that it was time for a change.  Whilst the move from the Victoria to the Carlton was a success it didn’t alter the fact of the long journey to the south coast for all our supporters from further north.

So we have made what is for us a significant move to Denman College in Marcham near Oxford. This is not only a much more central location for most of us but is also an opportunity to create a fresh and interesting Festival.

Denman is a very different offering from what we have been used to.  Its open spaces and grounds provide an echo of the chalet parties of bygone festivals and its modern facilities block provides ample space for our traditional events and scope for doing things a bit differently

Overall the accommodation is slightly smaller than that at the Carlton with more of an emphasis on single rooms, “no more single supplements” many will be pleased to hear.

We have almost concluded our arrangements with Denman and we are looking forward to our planning process.

Oh, and of course, there is the change in the bank holiday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  This probably will be pretty confusing for everybody; the committee are already struggling to get their heads round arrival on Thursday, going home on Sunday, and everything in between.

Still, there are great opportunities to create the VE 75 Celebration theme.
